Amnesiac Art

AmnesiacArts is a no profit cultural association born in 2002 from the idea of three friends, artists and art lovers, from Potenza. It was born as a sort of bet but, after a while, it caught the attention of important art reviews, as Flash Art, and began a significant point of reference for all the young artists from Basilicata. The association was created with the aim of building an art community, even virtual, where develops and promotes the interest for the visual arts through events, workshops, exhibitions, performances, meetings.
Activities and projects
They run for two years an art gallery, the AmnesicArts Home Gallery and organised many exhibitions and events. They have collaborated, and have been collaborating, with many local associations as Lucania Film Fest, Potenza Film Fest, GeneraZione Zero, Multietnica.
Market and incomes
They have never had public funds; their activities are completely self-financed.
Problems and obstacles
The main problems of the association are connected with the luck of a real link between the national, and international, art system and the cultural heritage of our region. Because of this isolation, every initiative created to promote the local art and to stimulate a debate about the new tendencies of visual arts, stays as an individual event and doesn’t find the right habitat to make fruits. The audience is ‘specialistic’ even though we made many attempts to involve more people. Our cultural proposals need linking structures, as museums, schools of art, labs, cultural foundations, art reviews, art galleries, able to make the most of them.
